About Our Horse Show Series

NCH strives to provide a safe and fun Horse show environment that is stress free for Both riders and their families.

one of our goals is to introduce new riders to the competition side of riding. We hope to motivate riders and to help them set and achieve goals that are focused on furthering their riding abilities and excelling in competition!

Must have 3 entries in class for points to count for series end awards.

Divisions below may include one or more of the following class types:

Showmanship - Judges evaluate the grooming of the horse and the expertise of the exhibitor in presenting the horse to the best of their ability. Pattern will be posted the day of the show.

Open Classes - Riders can use these classes to school over fences, otherwisew schooling is not permitted over fences in the show arena. There will be schooling fences available.

Equitation - Rider is judges on position and their ability to ride correctly with subtle, effective aids.

Pleasure - Horses are judged on quality of movement, consistancy of their gaits, and pleasant, relaxed attitude.

Performance - Riders are evaluated on their ability to complete judge's performance requests. Request's may be to perform at an etended gait, demonstrate a half-seat or sitting position at the trot or jog, or answer individual questions related to horsemanship.

Jumpers - Will be run Table. LL, Sec 2.1 No Jump Off, Timed First Round.

USHJA Outreach Classes - earn points toward year-end rewards and awards, and to earn the chance to participate in the prestigious USHJA National Championships. Riders and trainers competing in Outreach classes do not have to be USHJA members. To be eligible for USHJA Outreach points and year-end awards, riders must be a USHJA member (Outreach level or higher). Horses are not required to be registered with USHJA or microchipped to compete in Outreach classes.  However, horses wishing to accrue points toward year-end Outreach awards must be registered with USHJA and microchipped. USHJA Horse registrations are available for $20/annual or $75/lifetime.

**Don't want your ribbons? We are giving a $1 credit for each ribbon returned to the show office in good condition. Hand in the ribbons to the secretary to review at Check out for the credits to be applied.

OPEN SHOWMANSHIP -  OPEN TO ALL BREEDS AND HANDLERS

YOUTH SHOWMANSHIP - OPEN TO ALL BREEDS AND HANDLERS 17 YEARS AND UNDER 

GREEN HORSE - WALK, TROT/JOG, SMALL GROUP CANTER/LOPE - OPEN TO HORSES IN THEIR FIRST OR SECOND YEAR OF SHOWING AT THE CANTER OR LOPE. HORSES MAY BE SHOWN ENGLISH OR WESTERN.

LEADLINE - OPEN TO RIDERS 10 YEARS OF AGE AND UNDER. NOT TO SHOW IN ANY CLASS/DIVISION AT TGHE SAME SHOW, EXCEPT THE TRAIL CLASS. LEADERS AND SIDE-WALKERS MUST BE OVER THE AGE OF 14 AND APPROPRIATELY DRESSED. RIDERS MAY NOT HAVE COMPETED OFF THE LEAD AT ANY SHOW. HORSES MAY BE SHOWN ENGLISH OR WESTERN.

SMALL FRY - WALK, INDIVIDUAL TROT/JOG - OPEN YOUTH RIDERS. NO CHILD ENTERED MAY COMPETE IN ANY OTHER CLASS REQUIRING ENTRIES TO TROT OR JOG INDIVIDUALLY AT THE CURRENT SHOW. RIDERS MAY NOT HAVE EVER BEEN JUDGED IN A CLASS REQUIRING AN INDIVIDUAL TROT OR JOG AT A PREVIOUS SHOW. HORSES MAY BE SHOWN ENGLISH OR WESTERN.

BEGINNER ADULT - WALK, TROT/JOG - OPEN TO RIDERS 18 AND OVER NO ADULT ENTERED MAY COMPETE IN ANY OTHER CLASS REQUIRING ENTRIES TO CANTER OR LOPE AT THE CURRENT SHOW. RIDERS MAY NOT HAVE EVER BEEN JUDGED IN A CLASS REQUIRING A CANTER/LOPE AT A PREVIOUS SHOW. HORSES MAY BE SHOWN ENGLISH OR WESTERN.

BEGINNER YOUTH - WALK, TROT/JOG - OPEN TO RIDERS 17 YEARS OF AGE AND UNDER. NO CHILD ENTERED MAY COMPETE IN ANY OTHER CLASS REQUIRING ENTRIES TO CANTER OR LOPE AT THE CURRENT SHOW. RIDERS MAY NOT HAVE EVER BEEN JUDGED IN A CLASS REQUIRING A CANTERED or LOPED AT A PREVIOUS SHOW.  HORSES MAY BE SHOWN ENGLISH OR WESTERN. JUDGED BY THE EXPERTISE OF THE EXHIBITOR IN PRESENTING THE HORSE TO THEIR BEST ABILITY TO A SET PATTERN.  PATTERN WILL BE POSTED THE DAY OF THE SHOW. BEGINNER - YOUTH & ADULT - WALK, TROT/JOG, INDIVIDUAL CANTER/LOPE  - YOUTH AND ADULT RIDERS IN THEIR FIRST OR SECOND YEAR OF SHOWING AT CANTER/LOPE. HORSES CAN BE SHOWN ENGLISH OR WESTERN

YOUTH JUNIOR - WALK, TROT, CANTER - WALK, JOG, LOPE - OPEN YOUTH RIDERS 17 AND UNDER WHO CAN WALK, TROT AND CANTER IN A GROUP AND SHOW OVER GROUND POLES OR CROSS RAILS.  HORSES CAN BE RIDDEN ENGLISH OR WESTERN

YOUTH JUNIOR - WALK, TROT, CANTER - WALK, JOG, LOPE - OPEN YOUTH RIDERS 18 AND OVER WHO CAN WALK, TROT AND CANTER IN A GROUP AND SHOW OVER FENCES LARGER THAN CROSS RAILS. HORSES CAN BE RIDDEN ENGLISH OR WESTERN.

ADULT - WALK, TROT, CANTER - WALK, JOG, LOPE - OPEN ADULT RIDERS WHO CAN WALK, TROT AND CANTER IN A GROUP. HORSES CAN BE RIDDEN ENGLISH OR WESTERN.

OPEN PATTERN CLASS - WALK/TROT/CANTER or WALK/JOG/LOPE - JUDGED BY THE EXPERTISE OF THE EXHIBITOR IN PRESENTING THE HORSE TO THEIR BEST ABILITY TO A SET PATTERN.  PATTERN WILL BE POSTED THE DAY OF THE SHOW. HORSES CAN BE SHOWN ENGLISH OR WESTERN.

The Following Divisions are USHJA Outreach Classes

GROUND POLES - OPEN TO ALL RIDERS WHO CAN WALK AND TROT AND/OR CANTER INDEPENDENTLY.  SHOWN AT THE TROT OR CANTER. HORSES CAN BE SHOWN ENGLISH ONLY. TO BE RUN IN ACCORDANCE TO USHJA SPECIFICATIONS

CROSS RAILS - FENCES TO BE SET AT 12" AND TO BE SHOWN AT THE TROT OR CANTER. SIMPLE LEAD CHANGES NOT TO BE PENALIZED. HORSES CAN BE SHOWN ENGLISH ONLY. OPEN TO RIDERS WHO HAVE NOT WON 3 BLUE RIBBONS IN CROSS RAILS  THIS SEASON. TO BE RUN IN ACCORDANCE TO USHJA SPECIFICATIONS.

18” FENCES - FENCES TO BE SET TO 18” AND TO BE SHOWN AT CANTER. SIMPLE LEAD CHANGES NOT TO BE PENALIZED.  CANNOT CROSS ENTER HIGHER FENCE HEIGHTS UNLESS IT’S AN OPEN CLASS. OPEN TO RIDERS WHO HAVE NOT WON 3 BLUE RIBBONS IN 18'“ FENCES  THIS SEASON. TO BE RUN IN ACCORDANCE TO USHJA SPECIFICATIONS.

2' FENCES - FENCES TO BE SET UP TO 24” AND TO BE SHOWN AT CANTER.  SIMPLE LEAD CHANGES NOT TO BE PENALIZED.  CANNOT CROSS ENTER HIGHER FENCE HEIGHTS UNLESS IT’S AN OPEN CLASS. OPEN TO RIDERS WHO HAVE NOT WON 3 BLUE RIBBONS IN 2' FENCES THIS SEASON.  TO BE RUN IN ACCORDANCE TO USHJA SPECIFICATIONS.

2'3" FENCES - FENCES TO BE SET UP TO 27” AND TO BE SHOWN AT CANTER. SIMPLE LEAD CHANGES NOT TO BE PENALIZED.  CANNOT CROSS ENTER HIGHER FENCE HEIGHTS UNLESS IT’S AN OPEN CLASS.  OPEN TO RIDERS WHO HAVE NOT WON 3 BLUE RIBBONS IN 2’3” FENCES THIS SEASON.  TO BE RUN IN ACCORDANCE TO USHJA SPECIFICATIONS.

2'6" FENCES - FENCES TO BE SET UP TO 30" AND TO BE SHOWN AT CANTER. SIMPLE LEAD CHANGES NOT TO BE PENALIZED.  CANNOT CROSS ENTER HIGHER FENCE HEIGHTS UNLESS IT’S AN OPEN CLASS.  OPEN TO RIDERS WHO HAVE NOT WON 3 BLUE RIBBONS IN 2’6” FENCES THIS SEASON. TO BE RUN IN ACCORDANCE TO USHJA SPECIFICATIONS.

.60m JUMPERS 2.1 (Speed)- OPEN TO ALL RIDERS WHO ARE NOT COMPETING AT A FENCE HEIGHT HIGHER THAN 2’ AT THE SHOW. FENCES: .60M NO OXERS, NO COBINATIONS. TO BE RUN IN ACCORDANCE TO USHJA SPECIFICATIONS.

.65m JUMPERS 2.1 (Speed)- OPEN TO ALL RIDERS WHO ARE NOT COMPETING AT A FENCE HEIGHT HIGHER THAN 2’3” AT THE SHOW. FENCES: .65M NO OXERS, NO COBINATIONS. TO BE RUN IN ACCORDANCE TO USHJA SPECIFICATIONS.

.70m JUMPERS 2.1 (Speed)- OPEN TO ALL RIDERS WHO ARE NOT COMPETING AT A FENCE HEIGHT HIGHER THAN 2’6” AT THE SHOW. FENCES: .70M NO OXERS, NO COBINATIONS. TO BE RUN IN ACCORDANCE TO USHJA SPECIFICATIONS.

.75 - .80m JUMPERS 2.1 (Speed)- OPEN TO ALL RIDERS. FENCES: .60M NO OXERS, NO COBINATIONS. TO BE RUN IN ACCORDANCE TO USHJA SPECIFICATIONS.
